HAMLET - Notes on theme and character

The play develops s eeral important themes, the major adepts being DISEASE, decadence, REVENGE, PROCRASTINATION, MADNESS, and POISONING. The avocation is a set of notes on each of these topics. 1. In fact, young Fortinbras is presented to us first in the play as the model of what a young soldier-prince should be. The killing of Old Fortinbras in single combat by Hamlets father has bloodied the mind of greenish Fortinbras who can barely be restrained in his proclivity for revenge on Denmark.
